Web-enabling DB2 on Linux and Windows

Carl is currently working on an education seminar, which he hopes to offer at next May’s IDUG North American Conference in Las Vegas. It is to be titled Web-enabling DB2 on Linux and Windows and deals with the following topics:

  • Installing DB2 UDB and related products on Linux and Windows servers
  • Designing a database with intent to access it from the Internet
  • Coding an application interface using HTML and PHP
  • Securing databases and Web sites from unwanted access
  • Maintaining databases and Web sites

DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, Windows: A Guide for the Mainframer

Carl just finished updating one of his earliest IDUG presentations, now renamed DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, Windows: A Guide for the Mainframer. He brought it up to the level of DB2 UDB versions 7.2 and 8.1.

Future Directions

As time goes one, Carl intends also to look at other Web-based technologies, specifically:

  • HTML, CSS, XML, DHTML, and XHTML
  • PHP, Perl, and Java
  • MySQL (Gasp! An alternative to DB2?)
